8

Just got back from a pretty crappy 8 miles. I've talked a lot about the wind in these posts on running but the wind I experienced today could have come straight out of The Wizard Of Oz! I'm totally serious. I held a 10:15 pace in this 25-30mph wind and for that I'm proud. It was a horrible run but it wasn't supposed to be anything special. This was an 8 miler pretty much every single person ran this weekend who is running the marathon next weekend. It's a run to just "get done". Experts say to not go over 8-10 miles the weekend before because your muscles may not be fully recovered by race day if you do. My plan and most plans call for 8 miles and I did not do one bit over 8!

The temperature was perfect today and I'm feeling good about my race day attire. My nike top with built in bra, my nike temp shorts, my hanes dry fit socks, my nike shoes, my fuel belt, my gel belt. This week I will go get my sports drink from runtex (much like accelerade) that I tested out on the 20 miler, my gels, my gel cola shots and I have my endurox for recovery. Jeremy will be waiting at the finish line with my cocktail (endurox) on ice in hand!

Friday we will drive the route and go to race expo. Saturday my Dad gets here and I will watch movies all day long while they wait on me hand and foot!!! :) I will be doing nothing but RESTING!

Sunday? Well I can't even wrap my mind around it yet but I will run a marathon and then celebrate Sunday night here with friends! I plan on eating a huge steak with a large glass of pale ale (no dark for me)!

And the Marathon week begins...(heavy sigh).

This week i am supposed to run 3,4,2 and I will probably switch up the days so I can have a full 3 days off before marathon.

  1. Are you running the marathon w/your fuel belt? From my experience, you won't need it if the race organizers are doing their jobs. Maybe Austin does less water stops though? I was just happy not to carry the extra weight, ya know?

I hope you have a great week! I'll be praying for you for sure on the 15th.

  2. Yes, I am wearing it for sure! I am used to the weight and I want to make sure I have water and my accelrade on me when I do the gels, etc. I LOVE my fuel belt! :)

  3. There is water stops on every mile and I will be using those too! :) I think I have mapped out my system! I will see how this one goes and then may change some things for chiCAGO!
